Music, Mission, and Faith: Alphonse Joseph Shares His Spiritual Journey
In an interview with Shalom News, renowned music composer and singer Alphonse Joseph reflected on his journey of faith, music, and mission through his association with Jesus Youth.
Joseph recalled entering the movement in 1989 through a youth retreat and gradually becoming active in its music ministry. He said his early years were centered around music, but over time God led him into a deeper personal relationship and spiritual growth.
Speaking about his transition into the film industry, Joseph said he initially struggled with whether to dedicate his music solely to ministry. Through prayer and spiritual guidance, he felt called to enter cinema as a mission field rather than merely a profession. He shared that despite challenges and lost opportunities, he remained firm in his Christian identity.
Joseph also recounted key spiritual experiences, including a period of illness, reading about Francis of Assisi, and receiving renewed clarity about purpose and eternal life. He highlighted a later healing experience that strengthened his faith and conviction about personal transformation.
He further shared that during a world tour with A. R. Rahman, he treated the journey as a “mission trip,” using opportunities to witness his faith. Joseph concluded by encouraging people to discern God’s will and view their workplaces and professions as possible mission fields.
