CHALO Majerburi 2026 Forms Young Missionaries Through Faith and Mission Exposure

Guwahati, June 8: CHALO Majerburi 2026, the 18th edition of the national mission exposure programme of Jesus Youth Teens Ministry India, concluded on June 8 after twelve days of spiritual formation, missionary training and community immersion in Assam.

Held from May 28 to June 8, the programme brought together 26 teenagers from across India, including participants from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative aimed to deepen the participants’ relationship with Christ while fostering a missionary outlook rooted in faith and service.

The programme commenced at the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) in Guwahati, where participants underwent retreat sessions and missionary formation. Through prayer, sacraments, reflection and interactive sessions, they received training in discipleship, evangelization, leadership and community living.

A commissioning ceremony on June 2 marked the transition from formation to mission. Following prayers and blessings, the young participants travelled to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Matia–Majerburi in Goalpara district, where they were welcomed by the parish community.

During the mission exposure phase from June 2 to 5, participants lived with local families in the villages of Matia, Majerburi, Bengkanda and Kochpara. They engaged in home visits, youth interactions, children’s programmes, parish activities and faith-sharing gatherings. The group also conducted a special programme for students at Don Bosco School, Matia–Majerburi.

The experience enabled participants to witness the realities of rural life and experience the vibrant faith of local communities. Despite differences in language, food and customs, the young missionaries embraced the opportunity to serve and learn from the people they encountered.

The programme concluded with a final gathering in Guwahati from June 6 to 8, where participants reflected on their experiences and discerned ways to continue their missionary commitment in their home communities.

CHALO Majerburi 2026 was blessed by the presence of Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati, who met the participants during both the opening and closing phases. Organisers expressed gratitude to the parish community of Matia–Majerburi, NEDSSS Guwahati and the team of priests, religious and lay leaders who accompanied the participants throughout the programme.

For more than two decades, CHALO has continued to provide young people with opportunities to encounter Christ, experience missionary life and discover their role in the mission of the Church.
