Fifteen Disciples Make Solemn Commitment to Jesus Youth Movement at Mundelein Retreat

MUNDELEIN, Ill. — Fifteen participants from across the United States gathered at the University of St. Mary of the Lake from September 5–7, 2026, for the national Jesus Youth commitment retreat, culminating in a solemn pledge to the international Catholic movement.

A significant delegation traveled from Texas to attend the three-day formation event, with two-thirds of the retreatants hailing from the Houston area.

The weekend closed with a solemn liturgy during which the candidates made their formal commitments. Bishop Joy Alapatt presided over the ceremony, joined by concelebrants Fr. Thomas Pulickal and Fr. Joby Joseph.

The retreat marked a pivotal milestone in the spiritual journey of the participants, reflecting Jesus Youth’s core mission of missionary discipleship. Organizers emphasized that while discipleship begins with answering Christ’s call to follow Him, the formal commitment provides a lifelong pathway for young people to live out that vocation in active fellowship and service.
