Solemn Consecration to the Ordo Virginum: A Historic Day for Jesus Youth

It was a historical moment for Jesus Youth today as Miss Vandana Maria from Hyderabad became the first person to be consecrated virgin formally. Bishop Alex Vadakumthala, the Ecclesiastical Advisor for the JY International Team, administered this honour to Miss Vandana Maria.

Vandana is an active missionary in Jesus Youth for the last 25 years and has been contemplating a consecrated celibate life for many years. Professionally an engineer, she resigned her job after her discernment about a lifetime missionary life. Out of the three women who took a decision to live a celibate life, Vandana is the first one to enter into an official consecrated virgin life.

Along with pastors and mentors of Jesus Youth, the function was attended by almost all Jesus Youth leaders in Kerala. Her own mother and sister were also present.

The JY movement already has ordained priests who are working full-time for the movement. Vandana’s initiative could become a new initiative for women to commit in a deeper way.

The consecration ceremony of Vandana had the full status of any other consecration ceremony. The full recognition of the Church, the pledge declaration from the part of the candidate, and the presence of pastors and leaders in the movement brought out the seriousness of the subject.

Started at 6 PM on 7th October 2026, it took almost three hours of serious stages. The solemn Holy Mass with specific liturgical prayers and pledge responses and proclamations on the part of Vandana was a deep faith experience for all who were present.

The function concluded with a felicitation meeting and a grand dinner arranged by the Jesus Youth Team.
