The Digital Evangelist Presented to India’s Church Leadership at CBCI General Body Meeting

On the sidelines of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) 37th General Body Meeting, noted journalist and author Varghese V. Joseph Vadakkethala presented copies of his latest book, The Digital Evangelist, to the leadership of the Catholic Church in India. The occasion followed a meaningful media interaction and marked a significant moment for the book, which chronicles the life and mission of Jerin and his transformative contribution to the Church in the digital age.

More than 140 prelates, including the Apostolic Nuncio, Cardinals, Archbishops, and Bishops from across India, are participating in the seven-day CBCI General Body Meeting to deliberate on critical issues facing the Church today. Against this backdrop, the presentation of The Digital Evangelist emerged as a symbol of hope, renewal, and forward-looking evangelization.

The book was warmly received by the CBCI leadership. Archbishop Anil Joseph Couto of New Delhi, Secretary General of the CBCI, shared that he had already heard about Jerin’s immense and inspiring contributions to the Church. Mar Andrews Thazhath, President of the CBCI and Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, expressed his appreciation and satisfaction with the impact and outcome of the book.

Mar Joseph Thomas, Vice President of the CBCI and Bishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, showed keen interest in the narrative, while His Beatitude Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, conveyed his happiness and encouragement upon receiving the book.

Copies were also presented to Fr. Mathew Koyickal, Deputy Secretary General of the CBCI and priest of the Delhi Archdiocese, as well as Fr. Robinson Rodrigues, long associated with the CBCI and its Public Relations Office.

In a moment of fraternity and shared vocation, the author also handed over a copy to his dear friend, senior journalist, and acclaimed author Anto Akkara, whose courageous and decisive writings on the Kandhamal incidents in Odisha have been widely recognized as eye-opening and impactful.

The Digital Evangelist stands as a compelling testimony to faith lived boldly in the modern world, affirming that authentic evangelization can flourish even in the fast-changing digital landscape. The book’s warm reception by India’s Church leadership underscores its relevance and its potential to inspire clergy and laity alike to embrace new pathways of mission with courage, creativity, and conviction.
