Kairos Global: A Deeper Look at St Francis of Assisi

With this being the *Jubilee Year of St Francis of Assisi, *Kairos Global takes St Francis as its special theme this month, exploring why this humble saint continues to inspire and attract people even 800 years after his life.

In “Easy to Admire, Difficult to Follow,” Fr Patrick Kannadan OFM Conv. reflects on sonship and fatherhood through the life of St Francis and the Parable of the Prodigal Son. George Paul, in “Four Encounters: What Francis of Assisi Still Teaches Us,” looks at how Francis’ life can offer meaningful answers to some of the dilemmas of our own times.

“A Leaven Called Francis” by Fr George Valiapadath, Capuchin, explores the impact of Franciscan mendicants on the Church and society, while Ankitha Robin Poothavelil’s “The Franciscan Family: One Charism, Three Orders” introduces readers to the three Franciscan orders.

Joseph Anthrapher, in “God’s Troubadour,” reflects on the extraordinary love St Francis had for God and humanity and why that love continues to resonate today. “A Trusting ‘Yes’” by Jilu Chengat shares how St Francis helped her navigate a challenging moment in her life.

The issue also features Jecko George’s “More Like St Francis,” which looks at lessons and personal conversions inspired by the saint. In “Two Words at Assisi,” Geoffrey Merz reflects on the deep and lasting joy with which Francis lived his poor, simple and humble life.

Adding a personal touch, “An Ad That Changed My Life” tells how a newspaper advertisement about St Francis captured the heart of Fr Kuriakose Kattoopara OFM Cap. and changed the direction of his life.

Kairos Buds: Learning to Be Merciful

Continuing its journey through the parables, Kairos Buds focuses this month on the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, encouraging young readers to understand and practise mercy by becoming like their merciful Heavenly Father.

Savio Sabu takes readers on a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Sant’Agostino in Rome, one of the city’s historic churches dedicated to St Augustine of Hippo. In “Divine Familia: Merciful as Our Father in Heaven,” Awina Dsouza explores the message of forgiveness and mercy through the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant and the inspiring example of St Maria Goretti.
