Diaconate Ordination of Br. Chris Colaco Announced by Jesus Youth International

Birmingham, UK:
The Jesus Youth International movement has announced with joy the upcoming Diaconate Ordination of Br. Chris Colaco, a seminarian in formation for the priesthood and incardinated to the Diocese of Northampton, United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by Dr. Midhun Paul, International Coordinator of Jesus Youth. The ordination will take place on *Saturday, 20 December 2025, at **St. Mary’s College, Oscott, Birmingham, and will be solemnised by *His Grace Most Rev. Bernard Longley, Archbishop of Birmingham.

Br. Chris’ ordination marks another significant milestone for the Jesus Youth movement. Since 2009, designated as the International Year of Priests, when the movement began the formation of its first batch of seminarians, four priests have already been ordained. Br. Chris now takes a major step forward on his journey toward the priesthood through his ordination as a deacon.

Faithful and well-wishers from around the world are invited to participate in the celebration through a live stream, which will be available on YouTube.

Born in *Mangalore, India, Br. Chris Colaco is the only child of *Mr. Cyril Colaco and *Mrs. Josephine Lasrado. He grew up in **London, where he completed his A-Levels before pursuing studies in *Philosophy and the Catholic Tradition at the *Maryvale Institute, Birmingham. During this time, he also served as an administrator at *St. Joseph’s Hospice, London.

His faith journey deepened after joining the *Jesus Youth movement in 2010. In 2016, he committed himself as a full-time volunteer and served for a year in **Uganda. He entered seminary formation in 2018, beginning with a propaedeutic year in **Kochi, Kerala, followed by philosophical studies at *Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bangalore.

As part of his pastoral formation, Br. Chris ministered at *St. Mary’s the Mount, Walsall, and later at the *Cathedral and neighbouring parishes through the Bishop’s House in *Northampton. He completed his *Sacred Theologiae Baccalaureate from *St. Mary’s College, Oscott, Birmingham, in *December 2025.

His parents continue to reside in London. His father, Mr. Cyril Colaco, is retired, while his mother, Mrs. Josephine Lasrado, serves as a senior nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

The Jesus Youth International team for Clergy and Seminarians has requested prayers for Br. Chris as he responds to his sacred calling and extended heartfelt congratulations to him, giving thanks to God for this blessing to the Church and the movement.
