A God-Encounter at Charis Bhavan: Retreat for Nurses of Jesus Youth Kottayam Zone

The special spiritual retreat organized at Charis Bhavan for the nurses of the Jesus Youth Kottayam Zone became a profound encounter with God’s living presence. Nursing students from various colleges, nurses serving in hospitals, and even those working abroad gathered together, laying aside their hectic schedules and heavy responsibilities to rest in the heart of Jesus. What unfolded over those days was not merely a program, but a powerful experience of renewal, healing, and divine intimacy.

Through Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, meditation, proclamation of the Word, inspiring testimonies, group sharing, music, and a vibrant concert, the participants were gently led into a deeper awareness of their vocation. They were reminded that their service to the sick is not just a profession, but a sacred mission—an extension of Christ’s own compassionate touch. Many discovered anew that every patient they care for is Jesus Himself, waiting to be loved and served.

The Nurses Ministry continues to walk with nurses in their spiritual and emotional journey, strengthening them to face the pressures, stress, and loneliness that often accompany their profession. Rooted in prayer, fellowship, spiritual formation, counseling, and sharing of life experiences, the ministry also emphasizes living out the Jesus Youth Six Pillars, helping nurses grow as joyful, faith-filled witnesses in the healthcare field.

The retreat was prayerfully led and supported by
Fr. Jain MSFS (Chaplain),
Fr. Bijil Chakkiyath (Charis Bhavan),
Fr. Johnson (Kottayam Chaplain),
Fr. Suni (UK),
Sr. Christy Babu MSMI,
Sr. Sajani,
Br. Rinto,
Br. Patrick,
Dr. Abraham Jacob (Pro-Life),
and Jesus Youth members Mr. Akhil, Mr. Abhilash, Mr. Vinu, Ms. Hannah, Mrs. Alina, and Mr. Joy.

Their words, presence, and witness became channels of God’s grace. The music team and the vibrant “Kappipodi Band” added a special joy, making praise and worship come alive in a powerful and youthful way.

For many, this retreat was a life-changing encounter. One participant shared:

“It was not just a retreat for me—it was truly a God experience. I was confused about whether to attend, but later I realized Jesus Himself had chosen me to be koode (with Him). During adoration on the second day, I felt His warm embrace and an indescribable inner joy. What I received is a Jesus I want to share with others. I always want to be with Him… koode.”
— Minna Mathews, Caritas Hospital

Another participant expressed:

“The retreat was beautifully organized and deeply refreshing. Every session was meaningful and spiritually uplifting. The dedication of the team was visible in every detail. It was truly a healing and unforgettable experience.”
— Anitta, 3rd Semester, Little Lourdes College of Nursing

With hearts set on continuing this mission, the Nurses Ministry plans to organize:

  • Regular prayer meetings for students
  • College-based prayer groups
  • Visits by the Nurses Core Team to nursing colleges
  • Nurses’ fellowship gatherings and spiritual meets

The retreat at Charis Bhavan became a beacon of hope and strength for nurses who daily pour themselves out in loving service. It rekindled faith, restored joy, and reminded each participant that they are never alone in their mission—Jesus walks with them, works through them, and loves through them.

May this fire continue to burn, and may every nurse become a living witness of Christ’s healing love in the world.
