A Witness from the Journey

When Chackochan invited me to contribute to this book, I said yes with joy. I have been blessed to know most of the people whose stories are gathered here — some as mentors whose guidance shaped me, and others as companions and friends who challenged me, with whom I shared the work and the walk. What struck me then, and strikes me even more now reading these fourteen lives together, is this: there was nothing “extraordinary” about them. They were teachers, health workers, farmers, priests, religious, artists, and students. They carried the same burdens and limitations we all do. What distinguished them was a steady willingness to be used. They offered their time, their skills, their whole life, and their presence to what God was asking in the moment. In prayer, in service, in community, in quiet faithfulness. For some, that availability demanded great cost.

For all of them, it produced deep joy. Because when Jesus becomes real, even ordinary days shine. The enduring impact of their lives is what moves me most. I still hear their words. I still see their habits copied by people who never met them.

Yes, years later, we see the fruit: in the way young people pray, in the way communities serve, in the way leadership is formed patiently and personally. Their witness did not end with their earthly lives.

This book does not place these men and women on an unreachable pedestal. It puts a mirror in front of us, to remind us that holiness begins in ordinary availability — in saying yes to small things, consistently. And God does the rest. So if you’re reading this asking, “Could God use someone like me?” then you’ve picked up the right book. Fourteen lives. One Lord. One invitation for all of us: to be available.

May these stories challenge us, encourage us, and comfort us. May they remind us that the Lord who called them continues to call each of us — to love faithfully, to serve generously, and to witness courageously wherever we are.
