From a Broken Heart to the Altar: Br. Christopher’s Journey of Faith and Vocation

Br. Christopher, a Jesus Youth member and seminarian, shared his deeply moving vocation journey in “Hridayathalam” on Shalom TV, speaking about how Jesus Youth, personal prayer, the Eucharist and his relationship with Ajna shaped his call to priesthood.

Having encountered Jesus Youth during his school days at Nirmala Matha School, Thrissur, Br. Christopher remained rooted in a life of prayer and service. After completing engineering and postgraduate studies and working for five years, he spent a year discerning and praying before entering the seminary in 2021. He spent two years with the Preachers of Divine Mercy community and is currently on medical leave, hoping to return to seminary soon.

A gifted musician, Br. Christopher has composed around 15 songs during moments of personal prayer, describing them as melodies received while spending time alone with Jesus. He sees his musical gifts as his “five loaves and two fish”, which he offers to the Lord for Him to multiply.

A significant part of his vocation story is connected to Ajna, with whom he had been preparing for marriage. During a Mass after their engagement, he experienced a profound moment in which he saw himself serving at the altar as a priest. After Ajna’s unexpected death, the same experience returned when he went back to church, prompting him to discern the possibility of a priestly vocation more deeply.

Ajna, known for her deep love for the Eucharist, had also encouraged him to attend daily Mass. Br. Christopher shared that her simple words and example helped make the Eucharist an integral part of his own life.

The couple had even prepared a Communion song for their planned wedding Mass. Today, that same song carries a deeper meaning for Br. Christopher—a reminder of Christ’s self-giving on the altar and of a journey in which love, loss, Jesus Youth and the Eucharist became part of his call to the priesthood.
