A Small Blessing… A Great Miracle

A Testimony on the Feast of St. John Mary Vianney

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16

Today, the Church celebrates the feast of *St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of priests. The world remembers him as the *Curé of Ars. He led countless people to God, not through eloquent preaching, but through a life immersed in prayer and wholehearted dedication to his priestly ministry.

On this feast day, I would like to share a simple experience of how God worked through the humble blessing of a priest. (Fr. Stephen Kachapilly OFM Cap. is serving as a priest in Qatar.)

Last week, while we were on a Jesus Youth outreach to *Birkat, a place in Qatar, we met a brother named *Ranjith, who is from Kollam. He had been working as an accountant in a contracting company but lost his job after the company’s ownership changed. For months, he had been unemployed, struggling with disappointment and financial hardship.

We spent some time with him and prayed for him. Then I said,

“Come to the Jesus Youth prayer meeting this Friday. Let us participate in the Holy Mass, and afterward we can meet Fr. Stephen from the Malayalam community and ask him to pray for you.”

He came with faith. He participated in the Holy Mass. Afterward, we waited for more than half an hour to meet Fr. Stephen. He was very busy. When we finally met him, there wasn’t enough time to explain everything in detail. I simply said,

“Father, this brother has lost his job and is going through a very difficult time. Please pray especially for him.”

Father immediately placed his hand on his head, blessed him, and offered a short prayer.

To be honest, I felt a little disappointed that day. We couldn’t explain his situation in detail. We couldn’t even hand over his résumé. I thought to myself, “That’s all that happened.”

A few days later, he called me. He had attended an interview but was not selected. Once again, we prayed for him.

Then, sometime later, he called again—this time filled with joy.

“Chetta, I got a new job!”

What he said next touched my heart deeply.

“The very moment Father placed his hand on my head and prayed, I had complete assurance within me that God would give me a job.”

Those words taught me a profound spiritual truth.

Very often, we expect God to work only through great miracles. But God often chooses to work in the simplest of ways.

A short prayer…

A priest’s blessing…

A heart opened in faith…

That is enough for God’s grace to begin its work.

Jesus says:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7

Once again, God assures us:

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

On the feast of St. John Mary Vianney, this experience reminds us of a profound truth: God continues to bless His people, give them hope, and touch their lives through His priests. For a priest, it may be just a few moments of prayer, but God can transform that very moment into a turning point in someone’s life.

Today, many of our brothers and sisters are facing unemployment, financial struggles, and uncertainty. May this testimony become a source of hope for all of them. God never abandons His children. His timing is always perfect.

May the intercession of St. John Mary Vianney obtain strength and holiness for all priests. May they always remain living instruments of Christ’s love and mercy.
