Popular Social Media Influencer Leaves Fame Behind to Pursue Priesthood; Says Jesus Youth Inspired His Calling

Washington, D.C., June 26: Christopher (“Chris”), the American social media influencer who won the hearts of thousands of Malayalis with his distinctive Malayalam-speaking videos, has announced that he is leaving behind social media fame and a successful online career to prepare for the Catholic priesthood.

The news has surprised many of his followers, as Chris, known online for his entertaining Malayalam content, has chosen to embrace a life of faith after a remarkable personal journey marked by a life-threatening battle with cancer.

Although an American by birth, Chris developed a deep love for the Malayalam language and the people of Kerala. What began as a hobby of learning Malayalam for fun turned into an online sensation after he posted his “Survival Malayalam” video in September 2023, quickly gaining popularity among Malayali audiences.

Chris, affectionately known as “Your Friendly Foreigner” during his visits to Kochi, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, and other parts of Kerala, built a social media following of more than 150,000 followers through his engaging content.

At the height of his online success, Chris was diagnosed with cancer in October 2023. According to him, doctors later confirmed that the disease had progressed to Stage 4. However, he testifies that he experienced a profound intervention from God on Easter 2025, and by November of that year, he had made a complete recovery, surprising the medical community.

Chris says the Jesus Youth movement played a significant role in helping him discern his vocation. In a message shared with his followers, he expressed gratitude to God, his doctors, family, friends, and the Jesus Youth community for supporting him throughout his journey.

“The Almighty has done great things for me,” Chris wrote, adding that his personal relationship with Jesus as his closest friend ultimately led him to embrace the call to priesthood.

Now 26 years old, Chris says he is stepping away from the spotlight of social media to dedicate his life to becoming an authentic witness to Christ. His decision has been met with widespread admiration and prayers from followers and well-wishers around the world.
