Deacon Sumesh’s journey is a beautiful testament to how God can transform ordinary moments into extraordinary callings.
His adventure with Christ began during his school days at a retreat held at the Divine Retreat Centre. This profound encounter with God ignited a deep hunger within him to know and follow Christ more intimately. With a gentle nudge from his sister, Simi K R, he found his way into the vibrant community of Jesus Youth, where his faith blossomed and he discovered a true family.
The journey deepened during the Ephatha retreat organized by Jesus Youth’s Town Subzone (now Basilica Subzone) at Nirmala Matha Central School in Thrissur. Sumesh experienced the living Christ in a personal and transformative way. It was here that his relationship with Jesus transitioned from a mere spark to a blazing flame—a fire that would illuminate his path and guide his every step.
As he advanced in his academic life, Sumesh carried this flame of faith with him. During his BAMS studies, he embraced leadership roles within Jesus Youth, serving as a coordinator and core team member. He co-led initiatives like Ayur Grace, a retreat designed to help Ayurvedic students harmonize their faith with their professional journeys. His commitment to service continued during his MBBS at Thrissur Medical College, where he remained an active core team member and parish prayer group coordinator, joyfully living out his call to mission.
Deacon Sumesh’s life is a vibrant story of what happens when we say “yes” to God. His faith, deeply rooted in prayer, the sacraments, and a profound sense of mission, challenges all of us to trust in God, to listen to His call, and to step out in courage and faith.
As he prepares for his priestly ordination on January 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Dolours Basilica, Thrissur, let us surround Deacon Sumesh with our prayers.
